Simons Players Survey Results – 2015

Guys,

Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our 2015 Players survey – we had 82 of 90 players respond.  The results are attached and as a consequence, we will be making changes to the way the league is run next year.

There will be more information coming on the changes that will impact the 2015 / 2016 season.  Watch for them.

For now, there is lots of reading to do (35 pages !) and that’s a good thing because obviously people put thought into what they had to say.  As expected there are plenty of differences of opinion.

The comments are basically presented verbatim, I took the liberty of changing some of the grammar and some of the spelling, but other than that, this is EXACTLY what you said.  3 players had their names attached to their comments and I removed their names as we promised that ALL comments would be anonymous.

If anyone would like to verify the comments by comparing what we have presented here vis a vis the original survey input, we will be more than happy to provide username and passwords so that you can see the original results of the survey.  If you wish to do so, just send me an email and I will send you the uname and password to the survey and you can compare what is attached with the original input.

Stay tuned for our next communication which will advise you how to register for next year.  75% of the players are in support of the $100 non refundable deposit to secure your spot so we will be proceeding with that initiative.

Looking forward to a competitive, safe, fun and clean 2015/2016 !!

2015 Champions

Congratulations to the Canadiens who are this years 2015 Simons Hockey Champions. They took the final game of the year against the Bruins. It was a beauty of a game! Down 2-0 for most of the hockey game. The Canadiens scored two late goals to tie it. In a Simons first, neither the Bruins nor the Canadiens could finish the job in regulation or overtime.

The final came down to a shootout! Drew Robertson and Yves Trividic were forced to battle it out for the cup! Yves was able to stop all three shots fired at him. Mike Harvey was able to score the lone goal for the Canadiens to seal the victory for the Canadiens.

Cheers to another great season boys! We’ll see you in September.

Playoff Tie Breakers

Hi Boys,

With respect to tie breakers, the following, as per rule 2.14 from the 2014/2015 ASHL rule books are the steps we will use this year:

I also added steps f –> k to take it back to the regular season before we do the very unfair “coin toss”. Hopefully we won’t need to use it but its there if we need to.

2.14 TIES IN STANDINGS – 2 OR MORE TEAMS

In the event of a tie in the standings the following steps (a – f) will be used to break the tie:

a) Best record in head-to-head games in the playoffs amongst the tied Teams
b) Most Wins in the Playoffs
c) Largest Goal Differential (Goals For minus Goals Against) in the playoffs
d) Least Goals Against in the playoffs
e) Least Penalty Minutes (Average per Game in the Playoffs)

If we can’t solve it in steps a–> e, then we will look to the regular season to settle the tie:

f) Best record in head to head games in the regular season
g) Most Wins in the Regular Season
h) Largest Goal Differential in the Regular Season
i) Least goals against in the regular season
j) Least Penalty Minutes in the regular season
k) Toss a coin

NOTE 1: If there are still Teams tied after a step (no single Team is advanced), only the tied Teams from that step move on to the next step of the procedure. This process continues until there is only 1 team remaining.

NOTE 2: Once one team has been advanced using this tie-breaking procedure, it then reverts back to the start of the tie-breaking procedure (a) to break the remaining tie and so forth each time one team is advanced and more ties still need to be broken.

NOTE 3: Goal differential shall not exceed +7 in any playoff game.

NOTE 4: If all tied Teams have not played head-to-head, 2.14 a) will be skipped and the process will begin with 2.14 b).

EXAMPLE: 3 team round robin game results Team A defeats Team B 4-2 Team B defeats Team C 3-2 Team C defeats Team A 5-2

a) All teams are tied at 1-1 so head to head is not used
b) Team “A” is -1, Team “B” is -1, Team “C” is +2
Therefore Team C would advance and become first place. If a second place team is required, then Team A and B are still tied so they would go back to the start of the tie-breaking procedure to break the tie, where Team A defeated Team B. Therefore Team A would be the second place team.

Regular Season Winners

Hi Boys,

The Playoffs start tomorrow boys! But before we start, we need to recognize that the Bruins have won the Regular Season trophy. The Bruins finished with an impressive 16-3-5 record. Lead by their Captain Ferdie Espedido who scored 59 points in the 24 game regular season. He finishes just four points back of the scoring title. Which is has been claimed by the Canadiens Captain Darren Corea. Darren tallied 41G and 21A for 64 points in 24 games.

Tomorrow the schedule is going to be:

5:15PM – Bruins (H) vs Blackhawks
5:45PM – Red Wings (H) vs Canadiens
6:45PM – Maple Leafs (H) vs Rangers

Best of luck to all teams and players in the Playoffs. Let’s keep it fun and safe out there.

Cheers,
Sam

Remembering Paul

Hi Guys,

Paul’s sister and brother were at our games last weekend and they really appreciated the moment of silence for Paul that we all gave before our games. It meant a lot to them because Paul was such a supporter of the Simons Hockey League.

If you want some words said at the Celebration of Life, pass them along to me and I will ensure that they are passed on to his sister. She brought this to my attention on Friday night last week.

Paul & Marc

Cheers,
The Commish
